Trade-accredited scale technician Marlow Holloway began a new career at Weightrax after operating and maintaining submarines for the South African navy.
A graduate of the Wingfield Technical College in Cape Town, Marlow specialised in electronics and became an electronics fitter stationed on board navy submarines. In a military career that spanned more than 20 years, he was responsible for maintaining combat and weapons systems.
“The move from torpedo tubes to truck scales has been an enjoyable one,” he says.
“I’ve really enjoyed the challenge of understanding the scale world and learning the intricacies of scale calibration and fault finding. I am now fully trade-certified to service and install scales and have been accredited by Training Standards to calibrate and issue Certificates of Accuracy on Legal for Trade scales. Weightrax has also helped me with proper guidance and training.
“In South Africa I dealt with a lot of contractors and now I am a contractor myself – I use that experience to be the best one I can. I enjoy dealing with our customers and find New Zealanders relaxed and easy to deal with. The move to New Zealand has been very good for my family and me.”
Marlow is married with two daughters, 11 and 14. He is a keen road cyclist. In the summer he likes to play and watch hockey and baseball.
