Supporting waste data reporting requirements at WasteMINZ Conference 2023

Proposed waste minimisation legislation changes, associated waste data reporting requirements, and food scrap collection bins were hot topics at the recent WasteMINZ Conference, where Weightrax demonstrated its weighbridge automation solutions and reporting capabilities.

From 22-26 May 2023, Weightrax exhibited at the WasteMINZ Conference in Hamilton, which saw more than 600 attendees from organisations involved in the waste management and resource recovery sectors come together at Claudelands for the first in-person conference since 2019.

With ‘challenge the status quo to create a better future’ as the core theme, the conference focussed on the roadmap towards formation of national planning, regulatory and investment systems to support the development of essential infrastructure, and on the challenges and solutions to reducing waste across the supply chain. Connected to this discussion was New Zealand’s new national waste strategy, released in March, which aims to transform how waste is generated and managed in New Zealand. A key component to the success of this strategy is robust and accurate waste data reporting – and Weightrax was well set up to demonstrate what this could look like.

“There were a lot of people there from organisations already using Weightrax software, weighbridges and peripherals in their organisations – and they gave us a lot of very positive feedback about their experience with us,” says Atrax Group New Zealand general manager, Gary Brown. “Gratifyingly, these same clients were eager to share their Weightrax experience with prospective clients and we fielded quite a few enquiries about our products, solutions and services, and particularly about the capabilities of our Weightrax reporting.

“Weightrax’s weighbridge solutions play an integral part in helping organisations involved in waste management and resource recovery to operate more efficiently and effectively and meet their reporting obligations. We also design, install, and support high-quality, end-to-end weighbridges and automation solutions that are reliable and cost effective.

“It was great to talk to Conference attendees about this and also demonstrate how our Weightrax reporting capabilities facilitate collecting, collating and presenting meaningful and accurate waste data that is useful both at an organisational level, to track waste collection and increase productivity, and also at a national level in terms of informing how to track and report on waste issues and develop and prioritise solutions to help drive New Zealand towards a truly circular economy,” Gary Brown said.
